Courses
Why is the Introductory Course required?
This four-week Introductory Course provides an overview of cybersecurity fundamentals and our learning environment, helping you decide if the complete program is the right fit before fully committing.
Are certifications included in the program?
The program prepares you for multiple certification exams, but only the CompTIA® Security+ Exam Prep Course and its exam voucher are included in the tuition.
Can I earn certifications during the program?
You’ll be prepared for various certifications; however, only the CompTIA® Security+ certification exam and its fees are covered. Other exams and fees would need to be arranged separately.
What is TDX Arena?
TDX Arena is our advanced, cloud-based simulation platform where you can practice offensive and defensive cybersecurity skills in a realistic setting.
Does this program count as work experience?
Through our TDX Arena platform, you’ll engage in realistic simulations, allowing you to apply classroom learning to scenarios that mimic real-world situations.
Will I receive a degree?
Upon completion, you’ll receive a certificate that verifies your readiness for a career in cybersecurity. If you add the optional CompTIA® Security+ Exam Prep Course, you’ll also receive a voucher for that exam.
Is the curriculum current?
Yes, our curriculum is continuously updated to align with the latest industry tools, standards, and technology, ensuring you acquire the most relevant skills.
How long does the program take to complete?
The program includes a four-week Introductory Course followed by a 32-week main program, totaling 36 weeks. You may also add an optional eight-week CompTIA® Security+ Exam Prep Course.
Where are classes held?
The program includes 60% live virtual classes and 40% self-paced study. You’ll join live online sessions, engaging with peers and instructors on a cloud-based platform. Some cohorts also offer in-person options.
What is the class schedule like?
Classes are scheduled in the evenings on either Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday, making it easier to fit around your existing commitments.

Eligibility
Is this program exclusive to current or past students?
No, the American University Cybersecurity Professional Program is accessible to all, regardless of educational or professional history.
Do I need a degree or technical background to apply?

Are credits transferable to or from this program?
This is a non-credit program and credits from other institutions cannot be transferred to it.
How do I apply?
Begin by scheduling a consultation with an Admissions Advisor to determine if cybersecurity aligns with your goals. Next, meet with a Senior Admissions Advisor to discuss program details and career aspirations before starting the Introductory Course.
Is there a minimum age requirement?
Yes, participants must be at least 18 years old to join the program.
Does this program qualify for tax reporting?
The Cybersecurity Program is a non-credit professional course offered by American University. Due to current Treasury Regulations, we do not report information about these courses on IRS Form 1098-T. For more details, please consult IRS Publication 970, Tax Benefits for Higher Education.
Financing
How much does the program cost?
The tuition is $18,720, with an additional $180 fee for the Introductory Course. Please note that tuition, fees, and deposits are subject to change
Are there financing options available?
Yes, we offer multiple financing options, including personal or private education loans, monthly payment plans with 0% interest, and full payment following the Introductory Course. For more details, contact our Admissions Advisors at (202) 571-5078.
Is there a referral discount?
Yes. If referred, a learner is eligible for a $1,000 discount on the Complete Program tuition. Terms and conditions apply.

Is job search support provided?
Yes, we offer career preparation, including LinkedIn profile enhancement and resume assistance. Additionally, you can collaborate with our Career Outcomes team for personalized job search strategies and interview coaching.
What types of virtual events are available?
During the program, you’ll have access to live virtual events such as networking events, career fairs, skill-building webinars, industry panels, mock interview days, and workshops.
Are career support services an additional cost?
No, all career support services are included in the program tuition
Is job placement guaranteed?
While we offer extensive job search support both during the program and for six months afterward, we cannot guarantee job placement. Our Career Outcomes team is available to guide you throughout your journey.

What is a joint cohort?
Select cohorts will use a joint cohort delivery model. Participants will learn from a university-approved instructor and alongside students from other participating universities across the country. After completing the requirements, participants will receive a Certificate of Completion from the American University Cybersecurity Professional Program.
